THE LANGHE, AN UNESCO HERITAGE

“So, I thought it was just a hill I wanted”(W.Faulkner)

THE LANDSCAPES DECLARED HUMAN HERITAGE BY UNESCO
The town of Barbaresco is placed in the middle of a huge and intricate chain of low rolling hills that creates one of the most beautiful Italian landscapes, at the point that UNESCO has decided to declare this territory as “human heritage” during its meeting in Doha in 2014. Together with the municipality of Neive, the whole territory of Barbaresco belongs to the area of production of the homonymous red wine and hosts about 80 among the most prestigious producers of wine Barbaresco in the world. The territory can be easily explored on foot, by bike or by bicycle through a rich network of tracks and paths.

THE MOST SCENIC VIEW ON THE LANGHE
Majestic and imposing, the medieval watch town of Barbaresco is the biggest of its kind in Piedmont. Its height is 36 metres. The tower, which is structured on three grounds, belonged to an extensive system of fortresses that was built in order to protect the towns of this zone from the raids of Saracen marauders. From the terrace on its top, visitors enjoy a very scenic view that embraces the valley of river Tanaro that streams 200 metres lower and the lands of Roero, Asti and Monferrato as far as the white capped peaks of the Alps.

WHEN LANDSCAPES BECOME A POEM
Neive is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages of Italy. It is a small ancient town that clings to the top of a hill placed a few kilometres away from Barbaresco. Wandering through the maze of its narrow streets and cobbled alleys, the visitors discovers churches and chapels, ancient manors and palaces, medieval towers, stunning views on the deep green of the vineyards of the surrounding hills dotted with castles and little hazelnut woods. To wine and food enthusiasts, Neive offers some of the best cantinas of the Langhe where to eat and drink.
